Spring is in the Air
For me the smell of spring is the beautiful sweet and aromatic aromas of Jasmine. When it’s light perfume wafts gently through the air I know Spring has arrived. It’s also the freshness of the air that I love.
Spring is a time for new life. When plants and flowers begin to grow and sprout fresh green shoots. It’s a lovely time to get back out into the garden and enjoy the bearable temperatures before the heat of Summer is upon us.
It’s also the perfect time for planting given we tend to get more rainfall during this season. It’s ideal to start your veggie or herb patch in September through to November.
Our Grow with Gratitude Grow Kit includes Basil, Chives and Parsley Seeds, all of which would love to be planted during Spring. They all like sunlight but not too much when they start out as seedlings.
If it’s a veggie garden instead that you’re wanting to start, then in our Queensland warmer climate you could try, zucchini, pumpkin or tomatoes during this season.
Inviting your children out into the garden with you is a lovely Spring activity. After the Winter months, Spring is a time for shedding the wintery dross and stepping out into the light. It’s a time for detoxing and regeneration.
It’s also a time when the Spring equinox happens. This falls on Monday 23 September this year and is when the Sun moves south across the equator which means more sunlight hours. However, the Spring Equinox symbolises more than just the Sun’s movement.
“The equinox (which comes from the Latin for ‘equal night’) happens when the day and the night are at equal length, and the sun’s journey to get there signifies the universe’s journey as well. … Therefore, the Spring Equinox represents new light and life, new beginnings, seeds, and path.” Explains one source.
With that extra sunlight to savour outdoors why not try making flower garlands or doing some weeding with your children (Spring is ideal to get on top of your weeds). Or you could try reading affirmations together, which are also included in our Grow with Gratitude Kit. One particular affirmation that represents Spring for me is, “I am joyful, like the dancing butterfly and buzzing honey bee.”
Whatever it is, make sure you take the time to enjoy this delightful time of year.
If you have any Spring activities that you enjoy in the garden with your children, please let me know. I’d love to hear them.
